BUDGET ADOPTED, HIKES TAXES ABOUT 4 PERCENT

Village property owners will pay about 4 percent more in taxes this year under a $2 million budget adopted Monday by the Village Board.

The budget calls for a tax levy of just over $1 million.

Budget Officer Elmar Keifer said the tax rate is expected to be $14.77 as long as no further changes to the assessments occur before the tax bills are mailed June 1. The current tax rate is $14.14.

The budget increases spending by about $80,000, and Keifer said about a quarter of that increase is related to health insurance costs.
