First we read that County Comptroller Nancy Naples is critical of County Executive Joel Giambra's office for questionable furniture purchases from his good friend Jim Spano, who owns an office furniture business.
Now we read that Naples has spent some $500,000 of additional taxpayers' money in showing favoritism to a Wall Street bond underwriter. And we also read that the bond underwriter's mother, a Queens resident, sent Naples a $1,000 campaign contribution. What a coincidence!
And in the interim, we read that Naples carelessly overlooked paying the real estate taxes on property that she owns. Call it foresight or good luck, but the voters in the 27th Congressional District were smart enough to have sent Brian Higgins to Washington.
It's time that voters in Erie County send Naples "out to pasture" this November, assuming she has the nerve to run. In today's troubled Erie County government, we don't need and can't afford such leadership.
