In March, outgoing Sloan Mayor Kenneth Pokorski submitted a preliminary 2005-06 budget that reflected no increase in the village tax rate, but Trustee Anthony Sisti says that's not possible.
"It shows no increase, but don't believe that because it will change . . . by the time we find and correct all the errors," Sisti said at a sparsely attended budget hearing Friday night.
The errors Sisti referred to included salary figures for highway department personnel that were increased by contract for the coming year, but not included in the proposed budget.
There also are issues involving spending at the end of March that included nearly $85,000 made to former village attorney David Dale and about $238,000 paid to the Buffalo Sewer Authority for a bill that was disputed and under negotiation.
Both payments were made without board approval, according to Trustee Denis Sommerfield.
Sisti, who is village budget officer, said no new numbers were available in time for Friday's hearing because some financial records can't be found.
Sommerfield said he hopes to present updated budget figures at a second budget hearing scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday in Village Hall.
