The graceful, lilting voice of Audra McDonald has gone a long way toward lighting up Broadway. The award-winning actress and singer has starred as Sarah in "Ragtime," Ruth Younger in "A Raisin in the Sun," Carrie in "Carousel" and Sharon in the opera drama "Master Class." McDonald has recorded classical music and has worked in every medium from Shakespeare to television. She has won three Tony Awards.
A graduate of Juilliard, McDonald has released three solo albums, "Way Back to Paradise," "How Glory Goes," and Happy Songs. Next weekend, she'll appear with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. The concert is described as mostly jazz, in the style of Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. It's a style in which McDonald excels.
McDonald sings with the BPO at 8 p.m. next Friday and April 23 in Kleinhans Music Hall. Admission is $25 to $59. For information, call 885-5000.
