GIRARD PLACE FIRE LEAVES ONE PERSON HOSPITALIZED

One person was taken to Erie County Medical Center after suffering burns from a fire on Girard Place early this morning, Buffalo fire officials said.

The name and condition of the victim were unclear this morning. Firefighters were called at 12:37 a.m. to the vacant 1 1/2 -story house at 60 Girard, located off Fillmore Avenue near Martin Luther King Jr. Park. A cause is under investigation.

The fire caused $15,000 damage to the building and $1,500 damage to its contents, fire officials said. The house next door suffered $2,000 damage.

Buffalo firefighters also were called out at 11:37 p.m. Thursday to a fire at a vacant two-story house at 99 Ashley Street, not far from Broadway and Bailey Avenue. The fire, ruled an arson, caused $50,000 damage to the structure, fire officials said.
