GARDEN NOTES/ NEWS FROM AREA CLUBS

The Western New York Rose Society will conduct a hands-on rose-growing seminar from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Zittle's Country Market, S-4415 South Western Blvd., Hamburg. Bring gardening gloves and pruners; $5 donation.

Smallwood Garden Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Harlem Road Community Center, 4255 Harlem Road, Amherst. Marge Jasinski will discuss the care and feeding of African violets.

The African Violet and Gesneriad Society of Western New York will meet for "Dinner and Design" at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The design of the evening is a terrarium. General meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Depew High School cafeteria. Final preparations for the upcoming show will be discussed; bring your list of show plants.

The Tri-Town Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Pendleton Town Hall on Campbell Boulevard.

The Holland Garden Club will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Brink Memorial Community Center, Legion Drive, Holland. Following the business meeting and luncheon, Doris Flett, a Master Gardener and member of the Amana Garden Club, will present an interpretation of the Flower Show Schedule.

The District 8 FGCNYS Judges Council will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Brighton Community Church, 1225 Brighton Road, Tonawanda. Reviewing the evaluation of flower shows and flower show schedules will be discussed. Members are asked to bring in flowering spring bulbs for judging.

The Elmwood Village-City Garden Group will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Crane Library, Elmwood and Highland avenues, second floor. The program, "Xeriscaping" (gardening with drought tolerant plants), will be presented by Master Gardener Fran Evans. Members, free. Nonmembers, $5. For information, call Elaine S. Buffalo in Bloom and Grassroots Gardens of Buffalo will offer a free one-day gardening seminar for city residents on April 23 at the Buffalo & Erie County Historical Society or April 30 at the Buffalo Museum of Science. Classes run from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Preregistration is required.
