They're a match made in heaven: Gil Shaham, one of the world's most polished and entrancing violinists, and Erich Wolfgang Korngold, whose music resonates with the glamour of the silver screen.

Korngold, who was born in Vienna, found his way to Hollywood, where he wrote the music to movies including "The Prince and the Pauper" and "Captain Blood," in which a swashbuckling pirate played by Errol Flynn falls in love with Olivia de Havilland. The composer incorporated some of his soaring film themes into his Violin Concerto -- the piece that Shaham will perform Saturday with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. It's hard to imagine a more romantic concert.

The one-night-only performance takes place at 8 p.m. Saturday in Kleinhans Music Hall. In addition to the Korngold, Music Director JoAnn Falletta will also conduct the overture to Verdi's "La Forza del Destino" and the Symphony in B Flat by Ernest Chausson, a sensitive French composer who died tragically young.
