REPUBLICAN PARTY GETS NEW CHAIRMAN

Jerry E. Burrell, a former Cattaraugus County sheriff and a current legislator, has been named chairman of the Cattaraugus County Republican Party.

The committeemen met Tuesday at headquarters and unanimously chose Burrell, who replaces Jeremiah J. Moriarty III of Franklinville. Moriarty, who served since June 1997, stepped down recently after receiving an appointment to the state Court of Claims in Buffalo. Burrell, also of Franklinville, was appointed to the legislature representing District 6 in June 2002 and then elected to fill the term.
