Pitcher Pete Mantzanis struck out 10 in six innings and hit a grand slam to lead Clarence to a 9-5 win over Frontier in ECIC I baseball action Wednesday. Teammates Eric Palumbo and Matt Jarrett had two hits each. Clarence led, 7-2, after Mantzanis' fifth-inning blast before Frontier staged a three-run rally and had the tying run to the plate in the seventh.

Elsewhere in ECIC I, Ken Johnson (five RBIs) and Jeff Van Dusen (four RBIs) led Sweet Home to a 22-18 victory over Williamsville North. . . . Mike Deuschle's seventh-inning double scored Ed McKenna to give West Seneca West a 3-2 win over Jamestown. . . . . . . Orchard Park pitcher Alex Piepszny struck out nine in a 9-3 win over Lancaster. Vince Iwanski had four RBIs and John Latke scored four times for the Quakers.

ECIC II: Mike Zeoli and Brad Agustin got three hits each and Zach Anderson whiffed eight in Williamsville East's 16-5 win over Lake Shore. . . . Amherst's Adam Jenkins' seventh-inning RBI sealed a 6-4 win over Hamburg. Russell Zolonowski struck out eight for the winners.

ECIC III: Frank Pieri homered while Derek Fogarty and Ryan Miller tripled to help Williamsville South to an 11-3 win over Maryvale. . . . Depew's Taylor Sekutrski went 2 for 4 with a homer and three RBIs in an 8-6 win over Starpoint in nine innings. Winning reliever Eric Tafelski went 2 for 3. . . . Tonawanda toppled Springville, 4-2, as Brandon Schroeder went 2 for 2 and Matt Winiarski had two RBIs.

ECIC IV: Charlie Karstedt drove in eight runs and scored four to lead Eden over JFK, 14-6. Tom Binga and Derek Rudnick homered for JFK. . . . Darren Kamicinski struck out eight and John Vallone had three hits as Holland tipped East Aurora, 4-3. . . . Nick Laport went 3 for 3 and Mack Lambert had three RBIs as Alden defeated Cleveland Hill, 9-4.

Niagara Frontier: Adam Baker's three-run homer helped North Tonawanda beat Kenmore West, 9-5. . . . Nick Fabiano pitched a complete game and went 2 for 3 at the plate to lead Lewiston-Porter over Lockport, 5-2. Jack Lepage, Stefan Gallucci and David Willard had two hits each for Lew-Port. . . . Grand Island notched a 7-1 win over Niagara Falls as Ryan Breier threw a four-hit complete game and Derek Moody went 2 for 3. . . . Nick Gentner hit a two-run single to put Kenmore East over Niagara-Wheatfield, 4-3.

Monsignor Martin: Canisius' Brian Wolf struck out eight and Pat Brady and John Skomra got two hits each as Canisius blanked Timon/St. Jude, 5-0.

CCIAC I: Nate Jolls' eighth-inning single drove in Cody Prizel for Gowanda's 3-2 win over Fredonia, which got 16 strikeouts in seven innings from starter Kevin Manzella.


ECIC I: Laura Rojek whiffed seven and allowed just one hit and Leah Ellmann went 4 for 4 as Orchard Park whipped Lancaster, 8-0. . . . Williamsville North's Jenna Frieling pitched a one-hitter with 15 strikeouts to beat Sweet Home, 6-0. Lauren Parisi doubled, singled and scored two runs. . . . Stephanie Wydra struck out nine and Katie Pazda had two hits and two RBIs as Clarence beat Frontier, 5-1.

ECIC II: Iroquois eighth-grader Ashley Platek had four hits, including a grand slam, and drove in eight runs in a 14-7 win over Pioneer. . . . Hamburg opened a 4-0 lead then held off Amherst for a 4-3 victory. Winning pitcher Jessica Zeis struck out eight. Jessica Murray had two hits and two RBIs for the winners. . . . Amanda Barry and Sam Voncina knocked in the runs while Niki Rieman pitched a complete game as Lake Shore edged Williamsville East, 2-0.

ECIC III: Depew's Carine Janis struck out eight and allowed only one hit in five innings in a 12-1 win over Starpoint. Sarah Kiehl, Breanne Mangione and Jenna Kensy got three hits each for Depew.

ECIC IV: JFK's Beth Ameno threw a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts as Eden fell, 6-0. Dana Thompson hit an RBI double and Nicole Whitman had two hits and scored twice. . . . Cleveland Hill pitcher Kristen Rohe struck out seven in a 9-1 defeat of Alden. Teammates Jaclyn Plante (3 for 4) and Stephanie Zakowicz (4 for 4) supplied the power. . . . Four RBIs by Stephanie Flattery and three each by Alysa Allen and Tara White paced East Aurora to a 14-12 win over Holland.

Niagara Frontier: Lockport beat Lewiston-Porter, 9-3, behind the pitching of Maria Mangine (10 strikeouts) and the hitting of Rachael Cirello (3 for 5, two triples) and Brittany Broderick (2 for 4, three RBIs). . . . Delee Croisdale homered in the bottom of the fourth to break a 4-4 tie and lead Niagara-Wheatfield to a 5-4 win over Kenmore East. . . . Holly Przybysz got a hit and two RBIs and Michelle Krier was the winning pitcher as Kenmore West edged North Tonawanda, 4-3.

Monsignor Martin: Maggie Huntington allowed two hits while Nardin teammates Anna Glomb and Gretchen Bauer each went 2 for 2 with a homer and three RBIs in an 18-0 thumping of Buffalo Seminary. . . . Sacred Heart blanked St. Mary's of Lancaster, 9-0, behind pitcher Mallory Temberton and three-hit, two-RBI performances from Elyse Monte and Kristen DeCarlo. . . . Jenny Hare got three hits and Emma-Lee Conte went 2 for 3 as Niagara Catholic nipped Mount St. Mary's, 4-3.

CCIAC I: Ashley Ondus and Brittany Maybee got two hits each as Gowanda beat Fredonia, 5-1.

CCIAC II: Frewsburg's Beth Prince no-hit Cattaraugus/Little Valley, 12-0. Jessica Lassen was 3 for 3 with a homer.
