HOME BEING RENOVATED HIT BY $50,000 FIRE IN AKRON

A fire on Clinton Street in the village of Akron Wednesday afternoon caused $50,000 damage to a two-family home that was being renovated, Amherst fire officials reported.

The Akron Fire Company responding to a 3:46 p.m. alarm at 20 Clinton, was at the scene within four minutes and found the rear of the two-story home engulfed in flames. Neither family was at home when the fire broke out.

Firefighters from Newstead and Clarence Center responded to a mutual-aid call, and the fire was under control at 4:14 p.m. The cause remains under investigation.
