GASPER J. CATANZARO, CITY FIRE CAPTAIN
FEB. 26, 1919 -- JAN. 12, 2005

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of the Episcopal Church Home, 24 Rhode Island St., for Gasper J. Catanzaro of Buffalo, a retired Buffalo Fire Department captain.

He died Jan. 12 in Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo after a brief illness. He was 85.

Born in Buffalo, he graduated from Grover Cleveland High School.

Mr. Catanzaro was a Marine sergeant during World War II, fighting in the South Pacific. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

For 30 years he worked for the fire department, retiring in 1974 as captain.

He is survived by his sister, Rose C. Mancuso of Amherst.
