TWO NO-HITTERS IN CORNELL CUP

Scott Mackey of Riverside and Dan Mulligan of South Park pitched no-hit games in Cornell Cup city baseball openers Tuesday.

Mackey, a junior right-hander, struck out 11 and walked two in his first start as the Frontiers defeated Burgard, 15-0, in Riverside Park.

Last season, Chris Hans of Riverside pitched a perfect game against Burgard.

Riverside's Andrew Berdych, Luis Reyes and Julio River had three hits and three RBIs each.

Mulligan of the Sparks struck out 12 in a 14-0 win over Traditional in Cazenovia Park. Chris Shuster led the attack with a home run, double and single for five RBIs. Eric Wagner and Mike Flatley each had a triple and two RBIs.

Elsewhere in Cornell Cup, Felix Santiago hit a three-run homer and struck out five in picking up the save as Grover Cleveland edged Lafayette, 3-2. Jason Coronado struck out six in 5 2/3 innings to pick up the win for the Presidents. Catcher Eric Augostino threw out four Lafayette runners on attempted steals. . . . Zack Rojek went 5 for 5 and pitched six innings to pick up the victory for City Honors in a 14-5 win over McKinley. Mike Poveromo had three hits and stole three bases for the Centaurs. . . . Seneca's Brad Smith struck out 16 Bennett batters in a 15-9 win.

ECIC I: Mike Adams of Orchard Park pitched a two-hitter and John Lakey scored four runs in a 12-2 win over Clarence. Pete Mantzanis cracked a two-run homer for the Clarence runs.

Softball

Thompson Trophy: Jessica MacKinnon of Hutch-Tech pitched a no-hit game with nine strikeouts as the Engineers overpowered Lafayette, 18-0, in League 1. Jackie Jakubowski (four RBIs) and Michelle Rivera had three hits and four runs each for Hutch-Tech. . . . Elsewhere in League 1, Emily Zuchlewski of City Honors struck out 14 of 16 batters as she one-hit McKinley, 26-0, in five innings. Chandra Roberson had two triples and a double and scored five runs while Carlie Arnone had two doubles and scored four times. . . . Kristen Banks drove in three runs with a pair of hits and turned in strong relief pitching for Buffalo Arts in a 16-10 win over da Vinci. Krystal Wells had a three-run homer. Michelle Marooney of da Vinci had three hits and three RBIs. . . . In League 2, Shardai Adger homered and Sara Buscaglia had three hits as Emerson beat Burgard, 21-1. . . . Chelsea Wunderlich and Eliscia DelValle homered in South Park's 18-1 win over Grover.

ECIC II: Jessica Ferris pitched a three-hitter and Ashley Kotz drove in three runs for Williamsville East in a 9-0 win over Iroquois.
