Ruth M. Smith of North Tonawanda, who had been a nurse at Father Nelson Baker's orphanage in Lackawanna, died Sunday in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after a brief illness. She was 91.
Born Ruth Baker in Eden, she graduated from Sacred Heart Academy and then trained as a nurse. She moved to Niagara County in 1940.
Her husband, Henry V. Smith, died in 1964.
Surviving are seven sons, Henry N. of Niagara Falls, Charles J. of Penn Yan, Donald of Lewiston, David of Clarence, Timothy of East Amherst, Kenneth R. of North Tonawanda and Herbert of Orchard Park; three daughters, Patricia Martin of Houston, Janet Smith of North Tonawanda and Kathleen Opera of Pendleton; 28 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in St. John de LaSalle Catholic Church, 8469 Buffalo Ave., after prayers at 9 in the Lane Funeral Home, 8622 Buffalo Ave. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
