What happened to Joel Giambra's mantra, "no handout, no bailout"? I recall a fiery county executive chastising the mayor of Buffalo for the financial problems that the city faced prior to the imposition of the Fiscal Stability Authority.
Now Giambra is crying foul to Albany for not giving him more money in this year's budget. He screamed for Medicaid reform. State legislators approved a cap on future Medicaid costs, which will save Erie County $15 million per year. Giambra entered office with a surplus of $85 million and $211 million in tobacco settlement funds. Where did all those dollars, which were provided by some other entity, go?
The salad days are over. Giambra has no idea how to run a financially sound government. He has squandered millions of dollars and driven us into debt. Instead of taking responsibility for his actions, he has the audacity to attack and blame Sen. Dale Volker, Assemblyman Paul Tokasz and the other Western New York delegates in Albany. It is time for Giambra to be held accountable for his actions. Giambra must resign now.
