When the Assembly proposed a hard cap on Medicaid at the 2003 rates, where was County Executive Joel Giambra? Why didn't he fight for Erie County residents then? Now that the State Legislature has agreed to a soft cap with annual increases, Giambra goes on a tirade against Assemblyman Paul Tokasz, the man who has been leading the charge to reform Medicaid and who helped author the hard cap proposal.
A true leader looks to find a solution that will benefit those most greatly affected in a fair and responsible way. Giambra's ideas are neither fair nor responsible. Tokasz recognizes that to provide continued quality health care, we need to find a solution to the Medicaid crisis that allows for cost savings but does not jeopardize the health and well being of the people of this community.
Tokasz has once again proven that he understands the needs of this community and has earned our support.
