Holy Angels wasted no time establishing itself as a contender for the Monsignor Martin Association title. Anne Dobmeier scattered four hits and struck out 12 as the Angels opened league play on Monday, beating defending MMA champion Mount Mercy, 5-3. Dom Celotto knocked in the tying and go-ahead runs in the sixth inning. Jenna Vilardo had a double and triple and scored twice for the Angels.

ECIC III: Chelsea Plimpton pitched a 1-hitter with 12 strikeouts and retired the final 20 batters as defending state champion Williamsville South opened with a 12-1 win over Cheektowaga. Dana Carter had two triples and a home run and Michelle Fridey added a double and two singles for the Billies. . . . Katie Gleiser and Samantha Thompson combined for 16 strikeouts as Maryvale held Springville to one hit in a 13-4 win. Kim Gabor had a double, two singles and drove in three runs for the Flyers. . . . Carine Janis pitched five shutout innings allowing two hits, and helped herself at the plate driving in four runs with three doubles as Depew beat Tonawanda, 12-0. Jenna Kensy added three singles for the Wildcats.
ECIC IV: Jordan Rutkowski's grand slam highlighted Alden's 15-0 win over Lackawanna. Carlissa Cole threw a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts and Amanda Summers drove in three runs. . . . Beth Ameno pitched a no-hitter with eight strikeouts and Kim Hanzlian had two singles for JFK in a 13-0 win over Holland.
CCIAC I: Shelby Carlson and Amanda Yachetta had three hits each as visiting Falconer beat Dunkirk, 6-1. Tabatha Strenstrom had a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts for the Falcons.
