Steve Jaros clinched a two-season PBA Tour exemption when he captured the 2005 PBA Dexter Tournament of Champions, defeating Norm Duke in the title match, 248-242, in Mohegan Sun Arena. Jaros earned $100,000.
Duke barely advanced to the title match, knocking out ESPN bowling analyst Randy Pedersen, 256-255, in the semifinals.
Jaros finished 38th in the 2004-05 PBA World Point Rankings to barely earn a single-season exemption last week.
"Last week was a huge weight off my shoulders," said Jaros, who finished 22nd in last week's PBA Denny's World Championship. "I was able to relax. That helped give me a bit of an edge this week."
In the PBA East/Central Region Lucky Lanes Open at Fredonia, Liz Johnson of Cheektowaga lost to Brian Kretzer of Kettering, Ohio, 197-184, in the championship match.
Johnson rolled the only 300 game of the tournament in a 2-1 victory over Bob Hall II, in the round of eight. Her other victories were over tour pro Bob Learn Jr., 3-2; and Christopher Loschetter, 224-204. She collected $1,350.
Jack Jurek of Lancaster, who qualified second, dropped his first match to James Davis of Leechburg, Pa., 3-1 (179-190, 216-179, 211-158, 222-215).
