Nancy Naples' loss in the congressional election was both bad news and good news for the people in Erie County. Bad because we get to see her daily examples of ineptitude. Good because she is not embarrassing Western New York inside the Beltway. Can you imagine the shock and awe in Congress if members got to see her sorry act firsthand?
Should we be stunned or amused that Naples did not meet personal tax deadlines when she has no cash-flow excuse? In her world, it is less hassle to pay the interest penalty than to manage resources.
This fits with her proposal that the county could sell bonds to meet payroll and other short-term operational expenses. She did note the hitch could be as much as 10 percent interest!
And how would Erie County pay that debt when so many taxpayers and businesses are leaving? Raise taxes, of course! How absurd. This idea makes as much economic sense as opening a credit card to pay the mortgage.
This should demonstrate to voters that just because people have what it takes to run for a political office, it does not mean they have what it takes to ably do the job. Need another example? Just look at the whole Legislature.
