The recent debates over tax burdens in Erie County have forced everyone to examine the issue of whether our public employees are overpaid. I agree that if they are getting too much money for the work they perform, we should slash their wages and benefits. But how do we know they are overpaid? I have certainly become bored hearing certain radio personalities pontificate on how useless and expensive our county workers, teachers, politicians, etc. are.
If these individuals truly think public employees are paid more than they are worth, let us all compare. I challenge the radio personalities to publish their educational background, current job duties and salaries to compare with the education and services of other people. After all, if we bash one part of society for being lazy and overpaid, shouldn't we look at everyone?
