AWARDS EVENT TO MARK COMPEER'S ANNIVERSARY

Compeer of Greater Buffalo will celebrate its 20th anniversary with the annual volunteer appreciation ceremony at 7 p.m. April 25 in the auditorium at 70 Barker St.

Ross Szabo, youth spokesman of the National Mental Health Awareness Campaign, will be the keynote speaker. Michael Weiner, Erie County social services commissioner, will receive the Googie Butler Award for Advocacy. Samantha Clark has been named Volunteer of the Year, Judy Bryant is Compeer Adult Program Volunteer of the Year, and David O'Donnell is Compeer for Kids Volunteer of the Year.

Compeer uses the power of volunteer friends and mentors to improve the lives of children and adults who are striving for optimal mental health and a high quality of life. The organization matches volunteers in one-to-one friendship and mentoring relationships with children, adults and elders living with diagnosed mental illnesses and/or emotional difficulties.
