Alden residents will have an opportunity to speak to the Board of Trustees about a proposed 3.95 percent property tax increase during a public hearing on the 2005-2006 village budget Thursday night.
The proposed $1.8 million general fund budget is a $300,000 increase over last year, mostly attributed to the purchase of a new fire engine for $250,000. The vehicle will be purchased with money from the village's reserve funds, so there is little fiscal impact for the actual expenditures.
If approved, the proposed tax rate will rise to $9.99 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, an increase of 37 cents.
The water and sewer rates will remain level, while the garbage fee is proposed to increase by $19.19 to $178.87 total per unit.
The public hearing will be held during the regular meeting of the Board of Trustees, beginning at 7:45 p.m. at Village Hall, 1336 Broadway.
