The Catholic Diocese of Buffalo will mark an official day of mourning for Pope John Paul II on Friday, the day of his funeral in Rome, Bishop Edward U. Kmiec has announced.
All parochial schools will be closed Friday.
Kmiec will celebrate a memorial Mass for the pope at 12:05 p.m. in St. Joseph's Cathedral, 50 Franklin St.
The pope's funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. (4 a.m. Buffalo time) Friday in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.
Kmiec also will celebrate a Mass for Polonia in Western New York at 7 p.m. Sunday in St. Stanislaus Church, 123 Townsend St. Bishop Edward M. Grosz, auxiliary bishop of the diocese and pastor of St. Stanislaus, will deliver the homily.
