MAN SHOT FOR THIRD TIME DATING BACK TO 2002

A Buffalo man was shot Tuesday in the 400 block of Monroe Street, police said.

Michael W. Smith, 23, address unknown, was treated in the emergency room of Erie County Medical Center and released. Major Crimes detectives are investigating.

Ferry-Fillmore District police said Smith was shot in his left leg on Monroe, near Broadway and Beckwith Street, at about 2 p.m. Police said a gunman fired a total of three shots at him and was spotted driving away in a silver vehicle.

Smith had been shot twice before, police said.

On Nov. 5, 2004, Smith, then 23 and a resident of Phyllis Avenue, was shot in the back while sitting in his vehicle parked in a Crossman Avenue driveway, police said. On Dec. 21, 2002, Smith was shot in the chest while leaving an Ivy Street residence, police added.
