MAN SENTENCED TO JAIL IN APPLIANCE SCAM

A scheme to order replacements for supposedly defective mixing appliances landed Stephen R. Cavitt, 31, of Fillmore in the Allegany County Jail for six months Monday.

Judge James E. Euken also sentenced Cavitt to five years of probation and ordered him to make $1,680 in restitution.

District Attorney Terrence M. Parker said Cavitt pleaded guilty March 14 to fourth-degree grand larceny.

Parker said Cavitt ordered Kitchen Aid brand appliances, then complained that those he had received were defective and demanded replacements between April and December of last year.
