A tax rate increase of 49 cents per $1,000 of assessed value is featured in a proposed village budget for 2005-06 budget of $1,985,000.
During a public hearing Monday, Elmar Keifer, the village's budget officer, said spending in the budget is up about $60,000.
In addition to the $10,000 to pay out unused sick days the budget carries an increase of about $20,000 to cover rate increases in health insurance coverage for village employees. The village's payroll expenses are expected to be increased by 2 percent, Keifer said. The board also held a reorganizational meeting, with newly elected Mayor Ed Newman presiding. Sworn in were William Harford, newly elected trustee, and Kurt Lindstrom, who was re-elected trustee.
Newman also appointed Frieda Barnes to fill out the remainder of his term as a trustee, which he vacated by winning the mayor's post. Mrs. Barnes served as trustee during the early 1990s. Other new appointments include former Mayor Elizabeth Turzillo, Planning Board; Andrew Kehrer, village attorney; Maureen Morabito, chairman of the Planning Board; and Ann Frederickson, chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals.
