AUTHORITIES NEED TO TREAT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SERIOUSLY

When James Kopp was apprehended in the killing of Dr. Barnett Slepian, local prosecutors battled over which court had jurisdiction to prosecute him for his crimes. Recently an innocent baby girl was abused and murdered after being removed from local foster care, yet no one here sought to prosecute.

There are many unanswered questions in this matter, but one thing is clear, Amnerys Miranda was the victim of domestic violence. That area of crime doesn't get enough attention or resources in Erie County. It is not taken seriously enough by those who hold the power to act. Unless things change, we will see more tragic cases like this one.

Puerto Rican authorities have charged Amnerys' father, Victor Miranda, with her death. Has anyone considered the possibility that he may be acquitted in Puerto Rico? If he is, he will be a free man.
