OPEN MEETINGS LAW SHOULD NOT BE IGNORED

Sen. Dale Volker's comment in The News on our elected officials' disregard for the Open Meetings Law says it all. He said: "It is more important to find a way to deal with this than to worry about technical rules." No, Mr. Volker, it is not a technicality, it is the law.

He and and all the other elected officials who are involved in trying to solve this statewide, countywide and citywide tax-and-spend mess they have created should stop thinking they are above the law. If an "open meeting" shows that they can't develop a solution, that's too bad. They shouldn't try to hide their ineffectiveness. The taxpayers aren't above the law and they can certainly see behind the smoke screens.
