STATE NEEDS TO CLOSE LOOPHOLES IN MEDICAID

I am not a big fan of Gov. George Pataki, but at least I give him credit for trying to close the loopholes that allow families to shelter income to qualify for Medicaid payments for nursing home care. Now it appears the powers that be in Albany have rejected the idea. It's not right to let people give their money to their children so that they can get a free ride on others who are working hard to take care of themselves.

When did Medicaid change from a program to help those in real need to an entitlement for every person in the state? I would not deny help to those in real need, but those who are able should take care of themselves. With Medicaid so out of control in New York State, I really question what Albany's hidden agenda is regarding this matter.
