MILDRED C. TRAVIS, HOMEMAKER, TEACHER
APRIL 21, 1918 -- APRIL 1, 2005

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mildred Crane Travis will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 450 Abbott Road. She died in her home Friday after a long illness. She was 86.

She grew up in the Old First Ward and was awarded scholarships to Holy Angels Academy and D'Youville College, graduating with a bachelor of science degree from D'Youville in 1940.

She married Jim Travis in 1946 and dedicated her life to raising their six children. When the youngest started school, she attended the University at Buffalo and earned her teaching certificate in the early 1960s, working afterward as a substitute teacher for about 15 years.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, twins Ann Ersing of West Seneca and Kathleen Cloos of Buffalo, and Marynell Zieziula of New Hope, Pa.; two sons, James C. of Orchard Park and John J. of West Seneca; 22 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Burial will be in the mausoleum at Holy Cross Cemetery, Lackawanna.
