LIBRARY HEAD TO HALT SHUTDOWN OF OPERATIONS

Residents no longer are being asked to return all library books and materials to the city's two municipal libraries by April 15, said Niagara Falls Library Director Betty Babanoury.

After Thursday's City Council meeting, Babanoury said she will stop an orderly shutdown of operations at the Earl W. Brydges and LaSalle Branch Public Libraries that was planned due to lack of funding in this year's city budget.

At that Council meeting, city leaders vowed to keep the libraries open through the rest of the year even if voters reject a planned June referendum to turn it into a school district library.
