HOLTS MADE ARRANGEMENTS TO PAY THEIR BACK TAXES

I have great sympathy for Nancy Naples. If I were the Erie County comptroller, I would also be frantically trying to distract the public. But I wish she would pick on someone other than Legislature Chairman George Holt, who owns Mattie's restaurant with his wife.

As a Buffalonian living east of Main Street, I can't help but notice how few businesses we have. In our neighborhood, the city doesn't pay to lure coffee houses and bars from out of town. I appreciate Mattie's.

And I'm proud that when the Holts expanded and got behind in their sales tax, they made arrangements to pay, unlike other businesses that just skipped town with the city's money. I wish there were other brave entrepreneurs who cared about the neighborhood.
