SHERIDAN MAN FACES CHARGES IN CHECKS THEFT
A Sheridan man was charged with two counts of forgery for stealing checks from a person in the Town of Hanover and cashing them for about $3,000, Chautauqua County sheriff's officials reported.
Franklin W. Matney, 54, of East Middle Road is accused of stealing the checks in January, forging a signature, then cashing them at several locations.
He was jailed in lieu of $7,500 cash bail, or $15,000 property bond, pending a future appearance in Hanover Town Court.
