NOEL A.M. CERTAIN
MARCH 6, 1918 -- MARCH 29, 2005

Noel Aubrey Miles Certain, a retired contractor, died Tuesday in Mercy Hospital. He was 87.

He had lived in Western New York since 1980, most recently in Hamburg.

Mr. Certain retired in 1993 after working as a self-employed private contractor for most of his life.

The Sag Harbor native attended Westbury High School and served in the Merchant Marines.

Mr. Certain enjoyed motor coach camping and was a member of the Family Motor Coach Association. He also enjoyed chair caning and macrame.

He was a member of AME Zion Methodist Church in Westbury and Wesleyan Church of Hamburg.

His wife, Audrey O., died in 1988.

Survivors include two daughters, Marie Certain Conner of Hempstead and Margo Certain Luniewski of Hamburg; four sons, Noel A.M. II of Huntington, William R. of Hempstead, Ralph P. of Angier, N.C., and Charles C. of Southampton; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Saturday in Wesleyan Church of Hamburg, 4999 McKinley Parkway, Hamburg.
