Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo & Erie County is partnering with First Presbyterian Church in Buffalo to reopen a literacy drop-in center at the church.
First Presbyterian Church -- at One Symphony Circle, across from Kleinhans Music Hall -- is looking for volunteers to help with the program.
Those interested in becoming tutors would be trained by Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo & Erie County. Volunteers also would be needed to help with transportation, child care, making snacks and conversing with the students.
The center is open from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
For information, or to volunteer, call the church at 884-7250.
The church opened a literacy drop-in center last fall, but lack of interest ended the program. It reopened to the public recently, after members of the Sudanese community in Buffalo expressed interest to the Rev. Dr. Geri Lyon, the pastor, in a literacy program to help improve their English, church officials said.
