FRANCIS J. GERACE, GE RETIREE, FIREFIGHTER
JULY 6, 1936 -- MARCH 28, 2005

Services for Francis J. Gerace, a General Electric Co. retiree and firefighter, were held today in Hole-Parker Funeral Home. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Gerace died Sunday in his Silver Creek home after a lengthy illness. He was 68.

Born in Angola, he worked for General Electric in Erie, Pa., for 25 years as an experimental machinist. He retired in 1997. He also worked for Newbrooks Machine Co. in Silver Creek and as a dispatcher for the Silver Creek Police Department.

He also was active in the Silver Creek Hook and Ladder Company and Fire Police of the Silver Creek Fire Department.

Mr. Gerace was a member of the New York State Fire Chaplains Association, Southwestern Firemen's Association and Western New York Volunteer Firemen's Association. He also served as president of the Silver Creek Firemen's Association and Silver Creek Emergency Squad and governor of Silver Creek Lodge, Loyal Order of Moose.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and computers.

He is survived by his wife, the former Layuna "Lee" Smathers; a son, Philip of Brocton; a sister, Josephine Zgoda of Buffalo; a brother, Ciro Jr. of Akron; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
