The city's hunt for a new assessor will continue with new candidates, Mayor Michael W. Tucker said Tuesday.
Last week, two people refused Tucker's offer of the $49,043-a-year job.
City real property appraiser Lena D. Villella said no after the Common Council refused to raise the salary, and a second candidate turned the job down for personal reasons.
Although Tucker won't name that candidate, City Hall sources identified him as Peter J. Galarneau, a Lockport native working as assessor for four towns in Fulton County. Tucker did say that another candidate once billed as a finalist, Michael Sabansky of Wayne County, is "out of the picture."
Although 10 people were interviewed for the job in October, Tucker said he's now going to call on two applicants who were not interviewed during that search.
