Eleven skaters from Western New York clubs will participate in the U.S. Junior Figure Skating Championships, which run today through Saturday in the JSB Ice Arena here.
They are among the 380 skaters from 40 states, ages 8-18, who qualified in dance, pairs and solo at the juvenile and intermediate levels.
Representing the co-host Jamestown Skating Club are Amber Walczyk in juvenile ladies, Deanna Baudo and Alexander Cala and Michael Donovan and Jennifer Tingley in juvenile pairs, Jennalee Cogley and Christian Pickard in juvenile dance, and Ryan Coombs and Carl Linaman in intermediate pairs. Paige-Noel Piasecki and Nicholas Rotella of the Amherst Skating Club are also in the juvenile dance.
There will be two rinks in use during the competition, which starts with qualifying today at 10 a.m. The intermediate ladies fill today's evening program.
Thursday, competition opens with the intermediate pairs at 9:30 a.m. and concludes with the juvenile dance free dance at 8:40 p.m.
Included on Friday's schedule are men's and ladies short programs, and the long programs will be held Saturday. The awards ceremony starts at 8:30 p.m. that day.
Medalists will be assigned to represent the United States at international competitions.
