An Angola man has been charged with molesting a Southtowns teenage girl over a period of about two years, prosecutors and Town of Evans detectives confirmed Tuesday.
Gary A. Bingenheimer, 51, of Shorecliff Road, Angola, was arraigned before Evans Town Justice Timothy J. Cooper on Monday evening, after a months-long investigation by the Evans police Detective Bureau.
Bingenheimer was allowed to remain free on his own recognizance after he pleaded not guilty to sexual abuse and child endangerment counts for allegedly molesting the now-15-year-old girl a number of times in recent years.
At the request of Erie County prosecutors, the judge issued an order of protection directing Bingenheimer to stay away from the girl, whose family is well known to him, for the next year. Further court proceedings are scheduled for Feb. 14.
Lt. Samuel V. DeJohn, Evans chief of detectives, said an investigation was launched after the girl's relatives overheard her talking about the alleged incidents several months ago. He said she's receiving counseling.
