A late October fire that ravaged the Creekside Inn, a popular Genesee County restaurant, started in a first-floor office, according to the results of a joint investigation released Monday by the LeRoy Fire Department, Police Department and private fire investigators.
The exact cause of the fire was listed as "undetermined," meaning that neither accidental nor intentional causes could be ruled out, the ruling said.
The restaurant, which overlooked Oatka Creek at 1 Main St., was in the basement of a historic building topped by two floors of offices. It had been operated for several years by Philip Tooze.
About 100 firefighters from Le Roy and area volunteer companies fought the early morning Oct. 29 blaze. Despite their efforts, the building's interior was gutted, and part of the roof collapsed.
