NEARLY 50 HURT AS BUS CRASHES AGAINST OVERPASS

Nearly 50 passengers were hurt when a tour bus from Canada crashed against an overpass on Franklin D. Roosevelt Drive in Manhattan, authorities said.

Most of the 49 passengers escaped with minor injuries, but two passengers, a boy and a woman, were hospitalized following the Sunday afternoon accident.

The boy, Greg Pieszhala, 12, suffered a crushed windpipe, according to the Fire Department. He was treated at Bellevue Hospital and discharged Monday, the hospital said.

The woman suffered chest pains, but details on her condition were not available.

The passengers, members of the dancing and musical Polish Highlanders group, had performed in Totowa, N.J., over the weekend. They were sightseeing in New York City before heading home to Toronto when the accident occurred.
