HOLIDAY TRAFFIC BLITZ NETS OVER 1,600 TICKETS

More than 1,600 traffic tickets were handed out by state troopers across Western New York over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, State Police reported Monday.

Troopers kicked off their Thanksgiving Holiday Traffic Safety Initiative on Wednesday and wrapped it up Sunday. The blitz targeted aggressive drivers, noncompliant seat belt use and those driving while intoxicated, according to Trooper Arthur Pittman, State Police public information officer.

During the five-day period, troopers arrested 19 motorists on DWI charges, and issued 304 speeding tickets and 573 tickets for drivers or passengers not wearing seat belts.
