Evelyn Spacone, a manager for the Lerner Shop on Main Street for 23 years, died Nov. 22 in Schoellkopf Health Care Facility after a lengthy illness. She was 81.

Born Evelyn Francescutti in Welland, Ont., she attended local schools.

She married Carl P. Spacone in 1944 in Welland and they later moved to Niagara Falls. He died in 1990.

Mrs. Spacone was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and School while her children were young. She also held many offices in the school's Mothers Club.

She retired from the Lerner Shop in the early 1980s.

Mrs. Spacone was an active member of John A. Duke Senior Center. A bowling enthusiast, she participated in league competition.

She also enjoyed reading and traveling and was a fan of the Buffalo Bills.

Survivors include two sons, Andrew C. of Providence, R.I., and Robert D. of Niagara Falls; two daughters, Nadine Wasson and Mary Lou McEvoy, both of Niagara Falls; and eight grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Wednesday in Sacred Heart Church. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
