Anthony G. Infante, a self-employed shoe repairman for many years, died Friday in Mercy Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 87.
A native of Farrell, Pa., he attended schools through eighth grade. He developed polio as a child and moved with his parents for several years to Italy, where he recovered.
Mr. Infante moved to the Buffalo area in 1952 and began repairing shoes in the back of a Blasdell store operated by his brother. He did shoe repairs at various locations in Lackawanna for more than 30 years.
Mr. Infante lived most of his life in the Blasdell and Hamburg areas, where he enjoyed growing tomatoes, peppers and other vegetables.
He was a longtime parishioner at Our Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church and a former member of the Lake Erie Italian Club.
For the last three years, Mr. Infante was a resident at Autumn View Health Care Facility in Hamburg.
He was married for 55 years to Maria Alfieri Infante, who died in 1998.
Surviving are three daughters, Rose Murphy of West Seneca and Laura Ferrara and Antoinette Ambrose, both of Hamburg; two sons, Dominic of the Town of Tonawanda and Neil J. of Orchard Park; a sister, Concetta Vivolo of Las Vegas; a brother, Dominic of Orchard Park; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Prayers were said today in Lombardo Funeral Home, Orchard Park, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Mother of Good Counsel Church, Blasdell. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lackawanna.
