If the Niagara Catholic boys basketball squad thought it was watching an episode of "The Waltons," it was right. And to the Rapideers the show looked like a bad rerun.
Eric and Ian Walton scored over and over again Sunday to lead Nichols to a 68-51 victory in the Niagara Catholic Tipoff Tournament final.
Eric Walton, named tournament MVP, scored 19 points. Ian Walton added 17 more. Nichols improved to 2-0. Niagara Catholic slipped to 1-1.
Elsewhere in boys play, Michael Moore nailed four clutch free throws in the final minute to help Park defeat Andover, 51-47. Moore had a game-high 27 points for the 2-0 Pioneers.
In the Niagara Catholic girls tournament, the hosts had better luck. Niagara Catholic topped North Tonawanda, 36-34. Sara Poreda led the Rapideers (3-0) with 10 points. Jilynn Werth scored a game-high 12 points for the Lady Jacks (1-1).
Katie Carroll scored a game-high 12 points to power Mount St. Mary past Barker, 35-27, in the consolation game. Lauren Mullane grabbed 10 rebounds for the Thunder (1-1).
