DONALD C. SIMS, RETIRED RAILROAD ENGINEER
SEPT. 16, 1926 -- NOV. 26, 2004

Donald C. Sims of Depew, a retired railroad engineer, died Friday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst, following a brief illness. He was 78.

Mr. Sims was born in Buffalo and attended local schools.

He served in the U.S. Navy, rising to the rank of seaman first class.

He worked as a locomotive engineer from 1944 to 1988, when he retired from Conrail.

He was a lifetime member of Post 7967, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Alden. He also belonged to the Depew and Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church senior citizen groups and the United Transportation Union.

Survivors include his wife, the former Frances Walsh; two daughters, Barbara Cacho of Depew and Mary Smith of Irving; a son, David of Wilton; a sister, Ethel Nelson of Cheektowaga; a brother, Clarence of Alden; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered today in Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, Depew. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery, Alden.
