A business executive and his wife were found slain in their home in a fashionable neighborhood near the state capital, and police said the killer might not have been a stranger.
Police found the bodies of Winston "Brent" Springford, 62, and Charlotte Springford, 60, Friday morning, police Lt. Huey Thornton said.
Thornton said that evidence found at the scene lead police to believe the Springfords were killed by someone they knew. He would not elaborate.
"It does not appear to be a random incident," he said.
Thornton said investigators had no immediate motive, but the couple's black Jaguar appeared to be the only thing missing. Springford was president of the Pepsi Cola bottling plant in nearby Luverne.
Thornton would not comment on the cause of death or why police went to the house.
