Niagara County will continue to offer full fringe benefits to employees in the National Guard or Reserves who are called to active duty in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Human Resources Director Peter P. Lopes said four county employees are currently on active duty. The county's benefit policy, adopted shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, was due to expire Dec. 31. The County Legislature is expected to vote Dec. 7 to extend it one year, in the wake of committee approval last week.
In addition to the full benefits for the families of those called up, the county will pay the difference between the employees' county salaries and their military pay.
