A 9-year-old Bosnian girl underwent about eight hours of reconstructive surgery Friday at Kenmore Mercy Hospital.

Izabela Baketaric was in Buffalo to undergo surgery on her face and foot to repair burn damage suffered when she was 1 year old. The surgery was donated by Dr. Jeffrey Meilman, a board certified surgeon, the Hope for Tomorrow Foundation and Kenmore Mercy Hospital.

Friday's session was Izabela's second round of surgery. It included hair implantation, the formation of a new nose and the resurfacing of her face.

A fire eight years ago in Rama, Bosnia, burned most of Izabela's face, nose and ears. She also lost both of her hands.

The value of the donated surgery was about $50,000.

Dr. Meilman and the Hope for Tomorrow Foundation have donated surgery for hundreds of needy children from third world countries during the last 12 years.
