Cheektowaga native Roy Trafalski will coach the eight-person United States tennis team that will compete in January at the 2005 Deaflympic Games, for deaf and hearing-impaired athletes. The competition will take place in Melbourne, Australia.

Trafalski, 51, is a 1971 graduate of JFK High School who played tennis at Brockport State. He lives in Long Beach, Calif., where he runs a program called DhhEAF (Deaf and hard of hearing Educational Athletic Foundation), a nonprofit program designed "to teach life's lessons to deaf and hard of hearing children through tennis."

Trafalski, who is not hearing-impaired, will coach four men and four women in the Deaflympics, which get under way Jan. 5. Some 3,000 athletes from 80 countries will compete in 15 different sports. More information is available at and

Two Buffalo Bisons executives and the team's play-by-play announcer are available to speak to community groups for free.

The team's Speakers Bureau announced that Vice President and General Manager Mike Buczkowski, President of Rich Baseball Operations Jonathan A. Dandes, and announcer Jim Rosenhaus are participating.

BASEBALL: The University at Buffalo baseball team will host two clinics next month, one for children ages 7-12 on Dec. 27-28 from 9 a.m. to noon and one for ages 13-17 on Dec. 26-27 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The sessions will be held at Alumni Arena on UB's North Campus. BASKETBALL: Seventh- and eighth-grade girls basketball players living in Kenmore or the Town of Tonawanda are needed for leagues on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. If interested, call 837-4023. . . . A boys fifth and sixth grade league will begin Dec. 4 at the Gloria J. Parks Community Center. Entry is $125 per team. BILLIARDS: The Broadway Market is hosting the Christmas for the Kids Nine-Ball Tournament, which will be held Dec. 4. Age brackets for both boys and girls range from 4-8 years old through the over 21 bracket. Registration and practice time will be held at 11 a.m. and the tournament will begin at noon. GOLF: The North Tonawanda Department of Youth, Recreation and Parks will sell gift certificates for Deerwood Golf Course season passes and individual rounds beginning Dec. 1.
