LOCKPORT MAN GETS 30-DAY TERM FOR ASSAULT

A Garden Street man was sentenced to 30 days in jail Wednesday for punching another man in the face Aug. 2, 2003.

Marcus M. Maroney, 21, had pleaded guilty to third-degree assault in Niagara County Court. Judge Sara Sheldon Sperrazza also placed him on probation for three years and ordered him to perform 100 hours of community service.

Assistant District Attorney E. Earl Key said the victim, David E. Snickles, was struck from behind at his home and suffered several facial fractures. Key said Maroney accused Snickles of using a racial slur, an allegation Snickles denied.
